The Botany Department at our college boasts a rich history, starting as the Biology department in 1967 under the leadership of Prof. Vatsala Devi Menon and later evolving into an independent Botany Department in 1993. Over the years, we've grown from strength to strength, with our student capacity expanding from 20 to 32 by 2013. Our academic achievements have been nothing short of remarkable, including milestones like a 100% First-class pass rate in 1999, securing the University First rank in 2002, and an
outstanding 100% pass rate with 90% earning a First class in 2004. In 2020, we proudly achieved the Fourteenth Rank. Today, we're supported by DST-FIST, enabling us to provide
cutting-edge education and research opportunities. Our B.Sc. Botany course is designed to be both comprehensive and contemporary, offering students a deep understanding of
Botany's diverse facets, from fundamental principles to modern specialties. With a strong focus on hands-on experience, our students gain practical skills in plant taxonomy,
biotechnology, bioinformatics, biostatistics, and herbarium specimen preparation. Our finalyear projects not only enhance their experimental skills but also hone their abilities in
writing, interpretation, and presentation. At the Botany Department, we're not just nurturing students; we're cultivating future leaders in Botany who will continue our legacy
of excellence.
The Department of Zoology also has been functioning from the very beginning of the college. After delinking of Pre-Degree course Zoology is being taught as a subsidiary subject
for Botany Degree students. Sri. Sugunanandan was the first faculty of this Department.
Our vision for the Botany Department is to champion a "Green Earth" ethos, where our expertise in plant sciences drives sustainable practices and environmental consciousness. We aim to cultivate a generation of environmentally aware leaders who will protect and nurture our planet's precious green resources for a healthier, greener world.
To identify, conserve, and perpetuate our indigenous flora, fostering a deep understanding and appreciation of the rich plant diversity in our region. Through rigorous research, education, and community engagement, we aim to contribute to the preservation of our unique botanical heritage for future generations to cherish and study
United by a commitment to the department's visionary mission, the accomplished faculty collaboratively foster logical thinking, facilitate knowledge dissemination through impactful teaching and research, equip students with effective communication skills, and guide them towards diverse career paths, embodying a vibrant hub for scientific growth and holistic education.
We enrich the society by providing top quality scientific education to our UG Students.
